Tina's Favourite Primer... which isn't technically a primer

Everyone expects me to use only luxury products. This is 99% true! La Prairie Foundations and By Terry everything form the basis of my professional kit. I am a luxury purist with just one exception. Since I am responsible for the appearance of A-list actors, shot by the most advanced camera lenses, I don’t mess about when it comes to products; I use the best and most sophisticated formulations. However, “best” does not necessarily mean the most expensive. One product that’s stayed in my kit over the years is a Boots No. 7 bestseller called Protect & Perfect Serum.

Protect & Perfect acts as a dream primer for filming. Unlike red carpet or beauty make-up, I cannot layer on rich skincare underneath the foundation to impart plumped-up, glowy radiance; skincare has to be kept super light. The lights on set will cause make-up to slide off if I use rich moisturisers, even on dry skin! Filming in a cold location is slightly different, but for studio or warm-weather locations, I cannot be without this hero product. Dry or dehydrated skin is best addressed with serums and fine oils, followed by Protect & Perfect serum and oily skin can get by with just this serum alone!

Why do I love it so much? The serum-gel hybrid texture absorbs immediately into the skin leaving a smooth veil that make-up blends perfectly into.. The formula acts in many ways as a primer and contains Peptides, which are known for their plumping abilities. I find the texture of this serum is unrivalled by other more complicated formulations. The make-up adheres seamlessly without rolling, sliding or going patchy in areas. Unlike silicone primers which form a barrier between the skin and make-up, this primer disguised as an anti-ageing serum lets me work product right into the skin to create a completely believable result. I don’t want the camera to pick up foundation, it just has to show beautiful skin, and that is exactly what this product helps me achieve.

So darlings, when you are next in Boots and fancy spending less than £30 on a brilliant product used for many years by yours truly, try the No. 7 Protect & Perfect serum. This is best applied smoothly with my Large Foundation Brush.
